Who we are

Our program

Founded in 2023, our school for the blind and visual impaired children of Nias provides an education, physical, as well as psychological support for the students to pursue a fulfilled and independent life.

In our program students will recieve an Orientation and Mobility (O&M) training to recognize the environment, build self-confidence, and optimize the use of the senses.

”Since joining Onipedistra on January 22, 2024, I've been able to play the keyboard, guitar, keroncong, and kajon fluently, as well as make feather dusters and brooms, raising catfish, and make dishwashing detergent. I regularly play music for the choir of the students of Onipedistra.”

Our Mission

Onipedistra on the island of Nias aims to support visually impaired people through formal education, vocational training and inclusive community-based programs. By providing both hard and soft skills, it seeks to prepare them for the labor market and enable equal participation in society.

Our partners 

As an organisation that works with international partners, we are interested in cultural exchange and mutual learning.
Our blind children and young people in particular, who live in a very isolated environment, benefit from this exchange.
