Our mission is to provide education to visually impaired and blind children on Nias

Because Nias is a very traditional island, blind people, especially children, are still marginalized
and excluded from society.
Our school strives to provide education, necessary equipment and the training our students need. We believe that every child should to be treated equally and old negative habits need to be broken up.

Inside Onipedistra

Who we are
Our program

Founded in 2023, our school for the blind and visual impaired children of Nias provides an education, physical, as well as psychological support for the students to pursue a fulfilled and independent life.

In our program students will recieve an Orientation and Mobility (O&M) training to recognize the environment, build self-confidence, and optimize the use of the senses.

An introduction from Mr. Yunius Larosa

”I have many nice friends at Onipedistra.
I learned to read and write Braille and other subjects. I was trained to be independent through the vocal training, massage, music, and catfish farming. I really enjoyed feeding the catfish.”

- Princes Loy Ivanna Lawolo

”Since joining Onipedistra on January 22, 2024, I've been able to play the keyboard, guitar, keroncong, and kajon fluently, as well as make feather dusters and brooms, raising catfish, and make dishwashing detergent. I regularly play music for the choir of the students of Onipedistra.”

- Firwan Lawolo

Our Mission

Onipedistra on the island of Nias aims to support visually impaired people through formal education, vocational training and inclusive community-based programs. By providing both hard and soft skills, it seeks to prepare them for the labor market and enable equal participation in society.

Our partners

As an organisation that works with international partners, we are interested in cultural exchange and mutual learning.
Our blind children and young people in particular, who live in a very isolated environment, benefit from this exchange.

Give hope to children on Nias!

Your donation opens doors to education
and a brighter future!
